Revista Crítica de Ciências Sociais (RCCS), a journal of the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, publishes three times a year the results of advanced research in all fields of the social and human sciences. It favours works with a transdisciplinary approach which contribute to theoretical discussion, epistemological thinking, and critical knowledge about contemporary reality on a global scale. RCCS accepts submissions about all geographical contexts, giving special attention to studies which specially contribute to theoretical and epistemological innovation coming from the global South. The journal publishes in Portuguese, Spanish and English.

RCCS publishes non-thematic and thematic issues, the last ones guest-edited by renowned researchers from different fields. All submissions are subjected to double-blind peer review.

Revista Crítica de Ciências Sociais was created in 1978 by a group of Sociology teachers from the School of Economics of University of Coimbra, under the direction of Boaventura de Sousa Santos. From the no. 4/5 (October 1980) onwards, the Editorial Board included teachers and researchers from several disciplinary areas, materializing the creation of a place of dialogue between social and human sciences, which has been, since then, one of the key features of the publication.
