The journal Relações Internacionais (R:I) is the periodical publication of the Portuguese Institute of International Affairs (Instituto Português de Relações Internacionais, IPRI), a research institute founded in 2003 by the New University of Lisbon (Universidade Nova de Lisboa), the Luso-American Foundation for Development (Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento, FLAD), and the Orient Foundation (Fundação Oriente), in association with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and in partnership with Georgetown University and the European University Institute in Florence. Like other peer-reviewed international journals of its kind, the editorial policy of R:I is to publish a combination of scholarly articles and more accessible commentary. R:I is issued every three months. Four issues are published every year, in March, June, September and December. The journal can be accessed through a link on the IPRI website (www.ipri.pt), where the tables of contents, abstracts and book reviews of each issue are available in Portuguese and English. The aim of the website is to establish a connection with the journal’s readers, and promote debates at issue launches, which focus on the main topics dealt with in each issue. The first issue of R:I was published in March 2004. The first director of the journal was Nuno Severiano Teixeira (2004-2006). Edited
