Da utopia da sociedade em rede à realidade da sociedade de risco

Neste artigo é passada em revista a emergência da sociedade em rede, com as suas raízes na internet, na invenção da World Wide Web e na revolução digital. É também revisitado o ethos da cultura da internet e a sua projeção na sociedade em rede. Em seguida, é fornecida uma macro visão da galáxia internet, um fenómeno desigual e em rápida expansão. Por último, são analisadas algumas tendências que sugerem a crescente transformação da sociedade em rede numa sociedade de risco. Entre a perda de neutralidade da web e o risco da ciberguerra, constata-se uma substituição do idealismo inicial por preocupações económicas e securitárias.

This article begins with a review of the emergence of network society, with its roots in the Internet, the invention of the World Wide Web, and the digital revolution. The ethos of Internet culture and its projection in the network society is also revisited. Then comes a macro view of the Internet Galaxy, an unequal and rapidly expanding phenomenon. Finally, it analyses some trends that suggest the growing transformation of the network society in a society of risk. In between the loss of the neutrality of the Web and the risk of cyber warfare, there is a growing replacement of the idealism of the pioneers by economic and security concerns.

Desigualdades digitais: Acesso e uso da internet, posição socioeconómica e segmentação espacial nas metrópoles brasileiras

Muito tem sido escrito e debatido sobre o caráter democratizador das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (TIC), que poderiam promover amplo acesso a condições de maior participação social, política e económica. O objetivo central neste trabalho é avaliar se a difusão nas metrópoles brasileiras do acesso à principal dessas tecnologias, a internet, vem sendo condicionada ou não pelas históricas desigualdades sociais do país - em termos de renda e escolaridade - e, também, pela segmentação territorial. Por meio de modelos logit e logit multinomiais analisaremos os dados das pesquisas nacionais por amostra de domicílios (PNAD) dos anos 2001, 2008 e 2009 a fim de fornecer respostas a essas questões.

Much has been written and discussed about the democratizing nature of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), which might promote a broader social, political, and economic participation. Our goal in this paper is to evaluate if the spread, in the Brazilian metropolitan areas, of access to the opportunities opened by the Internet is con-ditioned by the countrys historical and social inequalities - in terms of income and education - and also by the spatial segmentation. By means of logit and multinomial logit models we analyze data from the years 2001, 2008, and 2009 to provide answers to these questions.

Consumo de informação política e participação digital em blogs de conteúdo sociopolítico

Este artigo faz parte de um conjunto de trabalhos que visam conhecer os fatores que determinam a participação digital em Espanha. Neste estudo, interessamo-nos pela forma através da qual o consumo de informação política afeta um tipo concreto de prática política digital: a participação em blogs políticos e sociais. Partindo de um inquérito do CIS (ref. 2736), reunimos um conjunto amplo e heterogéneo de formas de aceder à informação política. Aplicámos uma análise fatorial para ordenar este conjunto de variáveis e realizámos uma análise de regressão, tomando os fatores resultantes da análise anterior como variáveis independentes e, como dependente, a participação em blogs políticos e sociais. Com isto pretendíamos averiguar que tipo de informação nos permite predizer melhor este tipo de comportamento político digital.

This study is one of many that seek to understand the factors that determine digital participation in Spain. We examine the ways that consumption of political information affects a specific digital political practice - participation in political and social blogs. Beginning with a CIS questionnaire (ref. 2736), we gather a large and heterogeneous sample of means for obtaining political information. We apply a factorial analysis to order the sample and run regressions, using the factors emerging from the earlier analysis as independent and dependent variables. With this we reveal the type of information that allows us to better predict digital political behavior.

Crianças e internet: a ordem geracional revisitada

O artigo pretende contribuir para o debate teórico sobre a infância como geração, à luz das transformações sociais associadas ao uso das novas tecnologias por crianças e adultos. Tem por base empírica um inquérito por questionário a alunos do ensino básico e um conjunto de entrevistas em profundidade a crianças e pais. Os resultados põem em questão tanto a conceção das crianças como o elemento dominado nas relações de poder e saber entre gerações, como o determinismo tecnológico que as elege como nativos digitais, realçando a importância do contexto familiar, nomeadamente as clivagens sociais.

The article contributes to the theoretical debate around childhood as a generation, in view of the social changes brought about by the use of information and communication technologies by children and adults. It is based on a questionnaire survey to students in elementary education and on in-depth interviews with children and parents. The findings challenge both the notion of children as the dominated side in power/knowledge relations between generations and the technological determinism that sees them as digital natives, by highlighting the key role of family background, namely social divides.

Elites, estratégias e especificidades da encomenda de escultura de jardim em Portugal (1670-1800)

Este artigo aborda a questão da encomenda da escultura de jardim para quintas e palácios em Portugal entre 1670 e 1800. A sua atualização face aos modelos internacionais conduziu a nossa investigação até às circunstâncias e especificidades da encomenda levada a cabo pelos diferentes grupos sociais e nos diferentes contextos espácio-temporais. Neste artigo apresentaremos os resultados do inquérito dirigido aos encomendantes, no sentido de apurar a que grupos sociais pertenciam, as suas estratégias, e como estes foram variando ao longo da baliza cronológica proposta.

This article addresses the question of garden sculpture commission for villas and palaces in Portugal between 1670 and 1800. Its actualization towards international models has conducted my research beyond the circumstances and specificities around the commission made by the different social groups and in the various space and time context. In this article I present the results of the inquiry directed to the patrons seeking to see to which social groups they belonged to, theirs strategies, and how they have changed during that period of time.

Trajetórias de vida e identidade em Helena Almeida e Jorge Molder

The aim of this article is to enhance the role of the practices of self-representation in Helena Almeida and Jorge Molder as a constituent of artists identity construction processes using a Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA). It also emphasizes the idea of self-representation as the result of their embodied experiences as well as of the forms of acknowledgment and legitimization of their names.

O objetivo deste artigo é evidenciar o papel das práticas de autorrepresentação nas trajetórias de Helena Almeida e Jorge Molder como integrantes dos seus processos de construção da identidade utilizando uma Análise de Correspondências Múltiplas (ACM). Pretende-se ainda realçar a ideia da autorrepresentação como produto da experiência incorporada, bem como das formas de reconhecimento e legitimação dos seus nomes.

Mediadores culturais em Portugal: perfis e trajetórias de um novo grupo ocupacional

O principal objetivo deste artigo é estudar os indivíduos que intervêm em atividades de mediação cultural. A nossa atenção circunscreve-se a mediadores que trabalham em serviços educativos e em programas promovidos por políticas públicas. O estudo recai sobre percursos de um conjunto de mediadores, tendo sido realizadas entrevistas aprofundadas. A análise salienta dois aspetos: por um lado, constata-se que é diverso o grau de centralidade deste trabalho nas trajetórias, e por outro verifica-se uma convergência nos atributos considerados cruciais para o desempenhar. O artigo ensaia um esboço de diversos perfis, ressaltando a heterogeneidade do trabalho de mediação das artes em Portugal.

This article studies individuals involved in activities of cultural mediation. We confine our attention to mediators in educational services and programmes promoted by public policies. The study focuses on the trajectories of a group of mediators, based on in-depth interviews. Two features are highlighted: first, the differences in the degree to which this work is central to those trajectories; secondly, the common agreement on the qualifications required to fulfill the role. The article outlines a variety of profiles, revealing the heterogeneity of the work of mediation in the arts in Portugal.
