Rememorando Virgínia Quaresma (1882-1973)

Resumo Este artigo pretende ser uma reflexão sobre as vivências da primeira jornalista profissional portuguesa, proporcionada pelo distanciamento de quase quarenta anos decorridos sobre as iniciais investigações em torno do seu feminismo e republicanismo. Procura-se enquadrá-la no tempo em que viveu, percecionar os caminhos seguidos e as contradições que a marcaram, entre a militância da primeira década do século XX até à adesão ao salazarismo e ao esvaziar da matriz feminista que, outrora, fora a sua marca, quer enquanto cidadã, quer enquanto jornalista e repórter.

Abstract This article is intended as a reflection on the experiences of the first Portuguese professional journalist, provided by the distance of almost forty years since the initial investigations into her feminism and republicanism. It seeks to place her in the time in which she lived, to understand the paths she followed and the contradictions that marked her, from the militancy of the first decade of the 20th century to the adhesion to Salazarism and the emptying of the feminist matrix that had once been her hallmark, both as a citizen and as a journalist and reporter.

The art curriculum and women: An inclusive proposal?

Resumo Este estudo tem um aporte feminista e aborda o androcentrismo no currículo da educação básica, demonstrando a sub-representação de mulheres artistas em uma coleção de livros didáticos de arte para o Ensino Fundamental II no Brasil. Devido à pior visibilidade feminina nos conhecimentos estereotipados de música, propomos um repertório complementar de compositoras reconhecidas na história mundial marginal da arte. Incentivamos docentes a investigarem alternativas para a desnaturalização do androcentrismo, problema recorrente no campo educacional, apesar de haver orientações curriculares que defendem a equidade e a diversidade cultural.

Abstract The art curriculum and women: An inclusive proposal? This study has a feminist stance and addresses androcentrism in the curriculum of basic education by demonstrating the underrepresentation of women artists in a collection of school textbooks of Art for middle school in Brazil. Given the worst visibility of women in the stereotyped contents of music, we propose a complementary repertoire of composers who are acknowledged in the marginal history of world art. We foster teachers to research alternatives for the denaturalization of androcentrism, which is a recurring problem in the educational field despite the curricular guidelines that defend equity and cultural diversity.

Um olhar sobre a participação feminina na Assembleia Nacional: A deputada Virgínia Faria Gersão

Resumo O ano de 1935 marca o início da participação da mulher na Assembleia Nacional. Trata-se de um marco histórico na sociedade portuguesa, pois dá-se voz a um grupo que vivia à margem do domínio público. É neste contexto que, em 1945, é eleita a deputada Virgínia Faria Gersão, que se destacou pelo seu espírito ativo e pela forma entusiasta como advogou a causa do ensino. No presente artigo, pretendemos conhecer e compreender o contexto em que esta deputada se movimentou, assim como analisar a sua participação na Assembleia Nacional durante a IV Legislatura, socorrendo-nos para tal de fontes arquivísticas e bibliográficas.

Abstract The year 1935 marks the beginning of women’s participation in the National Assembly. This is a historic milestone in the Portuguese society, as it gives voice to a group of the population that lived on the fringes of the public domain. It is in this context that, in 1945, the MP Virgínia Faria Gersão was elected, a high school teacher, who stood out for her active spirit and enthusiastic manner in advocating the cause of education. In this article, we intend to know and understand the context in which this MP moved, as well as to analyze her participation in the National Assembly during the IV Legislature, using archivist and bibliographic sources.

Frankenstein or monstrosity as feminist practice and queer subjectivity

Resumo A análise do romance Frankenstein, or the modern Prometheus procurou ressignificar a figura do monstro, subvertendo o conceito da abjeção que estrutura o texto narrativo. O processo de subjetivação da personagem permite-lhe tomar consciência de si mesma, enunciando o «eu» ontológico, ato que atesta a sua emancipação como corpo-potência e sujeito queer, face à hostilidade humana. A fim de se estabelecer uma leitura em prol da personagem literária, tentou-se evidenciar certos aspetos textuais que confirmam a benevolência do sujeito despersonalizado, revelando o seu desejo de aceitação.

Abstract Frankenstein or monstrosity as feminist practice and queer subjectivity. The analysis of the novel Frankenstein, or the modern Prometheus sought to re-signify the figure of the monster, subverting the concept of abjection that structures the narrative text. The process of subjectivation of the character allows it to become aware of itself, enunciating the ontological self, act that testifies its emancipation as a body of potency and as a queer subject, in the face of human hostility. In order to provide a reading in favour of the literary character, certain textual aspects that confirm the benevolence of the depersonalised subject have been highlighted, revealing its desire for acceptance.

Teresa of Ávila: Poetry and mystics

Resumo Partindo dos textos de Santa Teresa de Ávila, doutora da Igreja, debruçar-nos-emos sobre a atualidade do pensamento e obra da autora à luz de uma epistemologia da subjetividade e na perspetiva do contexto em que viveu. Deter-nos-emos sobre o significado de uma “teologia da experiência” em Teresa de Ávila, constituindo-se As Moradas no expoente máximo dessa teologia. A autora usa metáforas poderosas para explicar e descrever o que considera não explicável. Algumas dessas metáforas são apresentadas.

Abstract Teresa of Ávila: Poetry and mystics. Taking as a starting point the written works by Teresa of Ávila, doctor of the Catholic Church, we will reflect upon the actuality of her thinking and doings from the point of view of an epistemology of subjectivity and of her life context. We will go deeper into the meaning of a “theology of experience” in Teresa of Ávila, taking As Moradas as the maximum expression of this theology. Teresa of Ávila uses powerful metaphors to describe and explain what is not explainable. Some of these metaphors are described.
