AZEVEDO, Maria; CASTRO, Ana    RUVINA, Maria. Polirradiculite por Herpes Zoster: Uma invulgar causa de monoparésia. []. , 20, 1, pp.87-92. ISSN 1646-2122.

Herpes Zoster is caused by varicella zoster virus and is characterized by a unilateral painful vesicular eruption, which usually occurs in a restricted dermatomal distribution. It results from the virus reactivation after latency in dorsal ganglia and in a few cases can cause both muscle atrophy and motor weakness in the corresponding myotome. The authors present a case of Herpes Zoster polyradiculopathy in C5-C8 territory, with detection of Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection. Recognition of Herpes Zoster as a cause of upper limb acute motor weakness is important to avoid unnecessary interventions and allow for opportune treatment optimization with improved prognosis and reduced costs and complications.
