PINHEIRO, Ana A. C.    SOUSA, Cristina M. V.. Fibromatose plantar ou doença de Ledderhose. []. , 23, 2, pp.160-167. ISSN 1646-2122.

The Ledderhose disease (LD) or plantar fibromatosis is a rare and benign condition characterized by plantar fascia fibromatosis. Although known for over 100 years, LD diagnosis and treatment remains complex. Health professionals should be therefore aware of this disease given the growing trend of some of the environmental factors associated with it, including diabetes and alcoholic liver disease. The presence of LD should alert the clinician to the possible presence of other superficial fibromatosis, including Dupuytren’s and Peyronie’s diseases. This article focused on a review of the LD literature in order to obtain the latest knowledge in the various dimensions of this disease, including definition, epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment. A survey was conducted in Pubmed / Medline with the words “plantar fibromatosis” and “Ledderhose disease,” especially selecting articles published in the last 20 years, including original and review articles in Portuguese and English languages.
