Abstract

VELOSA, José; HENRIQUETA, Ana  and  COSTA, Adília. The Dilema of a Solitary Nodule of the Liver on a Non-Cirrhotic Patient. J Port Gastrenterol. [online]. 2011, vol.18, n.5, pp.247-251. ISSN 0872-8178.

Hepatic nodules constitute a clinical challenge, not always clarified by the diagnostic tools available. The differential diagnosis of a hepatic space occupying lesion is broad and includes benign as well as malignant lesions. Age, gender, use of hormonal products and a history of chronic liver disease may provide clues to the etiology. We discuss the clinical, radiologic and histologic findings of focal nodular hyperplasia in a young obese woman, taking oral contraceptive drugs, who presented with a symptomless hepatic space occupying lesion. We underscore the difficulty in ruling out other etiologies, particularly the hepatic adenoma

Keywords : Hepatic benign nodule; focal nodular hyperplasia; hepatic adenoma.
