Abstract
CARVALHO, Maria João de. School administration: rationality or rationalities?. Rev. Lusófona de Educação [online]. 2013, n.25, pp.213-229. ISSN 1645-7250.
School administration based on a set of presupposes, also adopted by enterprising administration, and incorporates a decisive factor to the rationality crisis, motivation and legitimacy of the present day times. Productivity and efficiency, prerequisites of instrumental rationality, hasn’t allowed education actors to constitute themselves as democratic agents and consequently action agents. The actions of school board director and the conditions to which they are submitted don’t seem to favour the rising of a democratic, emancipatory rationality. This makes therefore necessary the emergence of rationality framed by criticism, interpersonal dialogue so that it may recognise not only the importance of the means but also the targets in an attempt to better understand the truth in which both elements are involved.
Keywords : school administration; crisis; instrumental rationality; democratic rationality.
