Abstract

CORREIA, José Matos. The Portuguese Constitution and the separation of powers concerning foreign policy. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2016, n.49, pp.47-67. ISSN 1645-9199.

The article aims to capture, albeit briefly, the statute of the Portuguese sovereign institutions in the context of the external action of the state. Such an assessment requires an inquiry into the legal and constitutional dimension but entails at the same time, an understanding of the evolution that forty years of political practice have allowed. Special mention should also be made to the specific challenge that the principle of separation of powers is facing today, by virtue of their own dynamics induced by integration into the European Union.

Keywords : Constitution; separations of powers; foreign policy; European Union.
