Abstract

LOPES, Almerinda da Silva. The James Kudo's Topofilia series. Estúdio [online]. 2018, vol.9, n.22, pp.55-65. ISSN 1647-6158.

This article analyzes a set of works denominated by the critic Topofilia, authored by the Brazilian artist James Kudo. In this series started in 2009, the author formalizes the clash between two cultures (the Brazilian and the Eastern), paying tribute to the place of the idyll, where he was born and lived with his family of Japanese immigrants and peasants, who helped to found the city, until when the "Três Irmãos» Hydroelectric Power Plant was built on the Tietê River, where the lands and the family residence in the countryside were submerged when the dam was opened in 1990.

Keywords : Contemporay painting; topofilia; James Kudo; mestizaje.
