Abstract
GASPAR, Carlos. Sketchy notes concerning the Great War and International Relations. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2014, n.42, pp.09-19. ISSN 1645-9199.
International studies bear a genetic relationship with the Great War, which is indissociable from its institutionalization as an autonomous discipline, the definition of its ethos and the elaboration of an international relations theory. On a first attempt, it appears to be possible to identify three distinct interpretations of the origins and nature of the Great War, corresponding, grosso modo, to the classic realists and the rival trends of «defensive realism» and the «offensive realism» and the «transition of power».
Keywords : First World War; international relations theory; realism; power.
