Energy cooperation is a cornerstone of energy security and is essential for addressing the challenges of global energy demand and the effects of climate and environmental change. For China, energy cooperation has been consolidated through the strengthening of bilateral and multilateral relations with producing countries and is part of the Going Out strategy and the One Belt One Road Initiative. This article analyses the evolution of China energy cooperation with Africa in an attempt to demonstrate the importance of this continent has for the security of supply and for the Chinese government's contribution to global sustainable energy development.
