SOCIOLOGIA ON LINE [online]. 2021, n.27, pp.99-123.  Epub May 05, 2022. ISSN 1647-3337.  https://doi.org/10.30553/sociologiaonline.2021.27.5.

This article analyzes data from a research carried out at a federal university in Brazil about female students who reported sexual abuse and violence within academic environment. Using mixed methods, we analyzed victims and perpetrators profiles, type of violence, associated underlying factors, situational description of the occurrence, victims ‘protection measures in the legal and health fields as well as the consequences of violence in the victims academic and personal routine. The results corroborate facets of university sexism, the invisibility of victims, the trivialization of occurrences, the complacency of institutions and the impacts on academic life, among others.

Keywords : sexual violence; violence within academia sexism; victimization contexts..
