Abstract

MARQUES, Inês Andrade. Travel, imagery and narrative maps. The map of Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo, Rita Carvalho (b. 1978). Estúdio [online]. 2020, vol.11, n.30, pp.71-83.  Epub June 30, 2020. ISSN 1647-6158.

This paper addresses the creative process of Rita Carvalho in the design of her narrative maps. These works start from her experience in the places to which they report and her interest in past events, these belonging to remote imaginary, or to recent times with autobiographical relevance. Three projects (Goliardos, Alentejo and Vumbi) contextualize the map of Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo (2009), which results from a trip to the island of S. Jorge, Azores, and the encounter with nature and its population.

Keywords : imaginary cartography; map; visual narrative.
