Abstract

DIAS, Eurico José Gomes. The Gazeta de Lisboa (1715-1760) as a paradigm of the eighteenth-century Portuguese periodical press. População e Sociedade [online]. 2019, n.32, pp.24-50.  Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 0873-1861.

The Portuguese ‘official’ periodical press began with the publication of the Gazeta de Lisboa in 1715 and would indelibly mark the entire eighteenth century. However, its origins date back to the time of the Restoration Wars (1640-1668) and, more remotely, to the ‘periodic’ publications that circulated until the turn of the seventeenth to the eighteenth century. Thus, it is important to address the relevance of these ‘periodical’ titles, in order to understand the foundations of the official press, which encompass an editorial context that is still little known.

Keywords : Gazeta de Lisboa; periodical press; History; historiography.
