Abstract
CAPOTE, Alberto and NAJARRO, Ulises. The roots of the moroccans in Spain: the beginning of a new migratory phase. Finisterra [online]. 2018, n.108, pp.71-87. ISSN 0430-5027. https://doi.org/10.18055/Finis12876.
The economic recession that began in 2007 has particularly affected Spain, especially due to the increase in unemployment and the reduction in social earnings. On the contrary to what was predicted, most of the immigrants in Spain have not returned to their countries of origin. However, there are differences between nationalities. In this article, we focus on the Moroccans who show clear signs of being rooted in Spain, how the crisis has affected their living conditions and what aspects were taken into consideration when deciding to return or stay in Spain. However, in a setting of post-economic recession a new cycle begins in their migratory projects in Spain in which descendants play an essential role. The study is supported by a review of official statistics and a qualitative study conducted in the province of Granada (Andalusia).
