Abstract
MANJATE, Anésia. Changana silent woman: Mulher Changana calada. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2019, n.Extra, pp.147-160. ISSN 0874-6885.
This article describes and analyzes my installation “Mulher Changana calada”, which is part of a set of works that I have been developing and exhibiting in various public spaces, with the purpose of disseminating the Mozambican tradition and culture in contemporary art. The art work presents a critical reflection on the Changana rituals, which combine tradition and religion, to which the Changana widow woman is subjected in the southern region of Mozambique. The symbolic charge of these practices is present in my work through different elements of the Changana tradition. Similarly, this research highlights the role of Mozambican women artists in the artistic panorama and and as a teacher of visual arts in the Mozambican teaching system.
Keywords : Changana tradition; women; visual arts; social criticism; educational system.
