Abstract
BRIGIDA-AURORA, Manchego Carnero; KAREN, Sivincha Huamani and ROCIO-EDITH, Manchego Carnero. The effect of a telehealth psychotherapy program on the mental health of youth at high psychosocial risk. RISTI [online]. 2023, n.50, pp.106-117. Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 1646-9895. https://doi.org/10.17013/risti.50.106-117.
This experimental study aimed to determine the effect of telehealth psychotherapy on the mental health of at-risk youth. Mental health was assessed using the Goldberg General Health Questionnaire. The intervention consisted of synchronous workshops conducted by expert nursing staff, while the control group received no intervention. The McNemar test was used to evaluate the differences between pre- and post-tests within each group. The sample comprised 60 young individuals. Prior to the intervention, psychopathological symptoms were found in 67% and 93% of the control and experimental groups, respectively. After the intervention, these frequencies decreased to 73% and 27%, respectively. The difference was not significant in the control group (p = 0.316), but it was significant in the experimental group (p = 0.000025). In conclusion, telehealth psychotherapy led by nursing professionals significantly improves the mental health of at-risk youth.
