The aim of the present work is the determination of the density and porosity of E. globulus wood by using gas pycnometry and mercury porosimetry techniques. In addition to these techniques, the water displacement method was also used to measure density, allowing a comparative study of the advantages and disadvantages of the application of these methods to the wood. Mercury porosimetry provided information not only on porosity but also on pore size distribution which permitted a more detailed study of the porous structure of E. globulus wood to be made.
