Abstract
PROCHNOW, Matias Henrique et al. Relationship between the start of irrigation and the phenological stage of rice in organic production system on weed development and crop yield. Rev. de Ciências Agrárias [online]. 2021, vol.44, n.4, pp.11-20. Epub Sep 28, 2021. ISSN 0871-018X. https://doi.org/10.19084/rca.25247.
The seek for food without the use of agrochemicals has been growing, stimulating organic food production. However, the cultivation of flooded rice in this production system has shown low productivity due to the difficulty in providing nutrients and controlling weeds, compromising the profitability of organic production. Early flood is the principal irrigation management strategy aiming at the control of weeds. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate different phenological stage times of establishment of irrigation in the flooded rice crop in an organic production system. Two experiments were carried out at the Department of Plant Science at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, in a factorial scheme (4x2), with four replications, sown on two dates: on October 10th and December 2nd, 2019. Weed incidence, morphophysiological characteristics, and rice grain yield have been evaluating. Early flooding to the phenological stage is an alternative to control weeds of the genus Echinochloa spp. without causing damage to grain yield in the organic production system.
