Abstract
VALE, Maria José et al. Paroxysmic Phenomenon During Bath and Hot-water Epilepsy. Arq Med [online]. 2008, vol.22, n.2-3, pp.41-43. ISSN 2183-2447.
Paroxysmic phenomenon during bath implies differential diagnosis with situations that are caused by exposure to water and other entities that are coincident with bath. The authors describe a previously healthy 12-month-old caucasian boy that during bath presented episodes of pallor, labial cyanosis, glazedeyed staring and hipotonia, lasting for 30 seconds, followed by drowsiness. Physical examination and additional study were normal. After changing bath habits the attacks disappeared. Considerations about the importance of knowing the occurrence of paroxysmic phenomenon during bath and the diagnostic difficulties and therapeutic implications in hot-water epilepsy are done.
Keywords : reflex epilepsy; paroxysmic phenomenon; hot-water epilepsy.
