Abstract
REZENDE-MATIAS, Ana. 2019 European elections in Malta: a Labour imperium in a country in a partly counter-cyclical path. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2019, n.64, pp.85-100. ISSN 1645-9199. https://doi.org/10.23906/ri2019.64a06.
In Malta, participation in European elections continues to decline although it remains among the highest within the European Union. The 2019 European elections were unsurprisingly less participated than legislative elections, and very nationalized. Malta reveals some exceptions to the European trend, namely the clear victory of the Labour Party (S&D family) and the small number of ballots cast in the Democratic Alternative (Green Party). One of the greatest challenges of the Labour Party will be to contain the Eurosceptic right-wing wave, such as the Imperium Europa, which is starting to gain ground.
