Abstract
PINHEIRO, Ana A. C. et al. Infiltração peritendinosa de corticóides no tratamento da dor retrocalcaneana crónica: a propósito de um caso clínico. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2015, vol.23, n.2, pp.195-200. ISSN 1646-2122.
Although Achilles rupture is relatively common, non-traumatic bilateral rupture is less common, constituting 0.002% of the cases described in the literature. Tendinosis and prior oral or peritendinous corticosteroid infiltration are among the most important factors for tendon rupture. The authors present a case of simultaneous bilateral and atraumatic Achilles tendon rupture in a patient previously submitted to treatment with corticosteroids peritendinous infiltration bilaterally. The patient underwent bilateral percutaneous suture with Tenolig®. The aim of this report is to highlight the excessive risk of using corticosteroids peritendinous injections in the treatment of retrocalcaneal chronic pain difficult to control by other means, in patients with chronic tendinosis, even in the absence of other risk factors for rupture. Medical community should be aware of the adverse effects of peritendinous corticosteroid infiltration, which should be used cautiously.
