Abstract

GARCIA PERERA, José Manuel. Deconstructing male identity: Manuel Antonio Domínguez and the headless man. Estúdio [online]. 2016, vol.7, n.13, pp.87-94. ISSN 1647-6158.

This article approaches the figure of Spanish artist Manuel Antonio Domínguez through his reflection on the construction of male identity. An analysis of his work and critical texts reveals his concern about artificial characteristics associated with traditional masculinity. The artist creates with his painting, full of ambiguity and subverted codes, the headless man, person who needs to shelve preset patterns to achieve a larger freedom that allows him to model himself according to his wishes.
