Abstract

Jorge dos Anjos is the only brazilian artist who works with soapstone and resignifies it with his artistic language. This is one of the most important raw materials of Brazilian Art, one of those responsible for the unique look of the Baroque Mineiro. This article analyzes the artist’s 2007 serie in which iron outline the soapstone and dissolves an important form conflict of brazilian plastic arts. The analysis makes references to the Mário de Andrade’s text O Aleijadinho, which traces important parameters of national art.
