The present paper explores some of the relationships between the themes of multicultural education and school culture. By retrieving some of the portuguese studies highlighting the cultural diversity in schools and, simultaneously, the power of that world of meanings in the making of school practices, this text tries to locate and discuss how to pursue the multicultural practices in the portuguese educational institutions.
