PINTO, Marisa; VARELA, Ana Margarida and VINHAL, António. A Personalidade das Vítimas de Violência Conjugal. Revista Portuguesa de Enfermagem de Saúde Mental [online]. 2012, n.8, pp.25-29. ISSN 1647-2160.
The domestic violence is considered by the World Health Organization (2002) a public health problem, with disastrous repercussions for the physical and mental health of the victim, and something that hampers the performance of the full family, social and labor. In this point of view the present investigation aimed to characterize the victims of domestic violence and describe the dimensions of personality in this population. For this, we performed a cross-sectional and descriptive study. The sample was selected through a kind of non-probability sample having been obtained by convenience consisting of 37 victims of domestic violence. To achieve the intended goals was applied a research protocol that consists on a sociodemographic questionnaire and the NEO-FFI-20 (Bertoquini e Pais-Ribeiro, 2006). The results show that victims of domestic violence are female, between 20 and 69 and unemployed, but not economically dependent on the abuser. The most practiced types of violence are: psychological and physical violence. The personality dimensions that characterize victims of domestic violence are conscientiousness and neuroticism.
