Abstract

SILVA, Dieison Morozoli da; GASS, Sidnei Luís Bohn  and  RIBEIRO, Dalvana Lopes. Analysis of the Conservationist Use Potential in the municipalities of Manoel Viana and São Francisco de Assis - RS and its relationship with land use and cover and land structure. GOT [online]. 2023, n.26, pp.54-77.  Epub Mar 12, 2024. ISSN 2182-1267.  https://doi.org/10.17127/got/2023.26.003.

Research Purpose:

Characterization of the Conservation Use Potential of the municipalities of Manoel Viana and São Francisco de Assis, RS, Brazil.

Methodology:

Pedology, lithology and slope data were ranked using Hierarchical Process Analysis. Subsequently, their values were weighted through the calculation of the Conservation Use Potential (CUP), which was carried out in the GIS QGIS environment. The resulting map was compared to land use and coverage in 1985 and 2020 and also to the land structure of the study area.

Findings:

The resulting mapping demonstrated that medium and high CUPs predominate in the study area, in addition to the occurrence in lesser intensity of places with very low, low or very high index. The land structure was distributed mainly in places with medium or high CUP, in addition to the slight detection of smallholdings in very low CUP and large properties in very high CUP. In relation to land use and coverage, the growth of forest formations in low and medium CUPs stood out, while there was an increase in soybean cultivation and pastures in all CUPs.

Originality/Value:

The work allows the representation and quantitative analysis of the Potential for Conservationist Use, through the use of free and accessible data, with a methodology that can be applied in different scenarios, and it is even possible to include new variables.
