PONCIANO, Thales H. J. y CONTO, Ferdinando De. Schwannoma in the lower lip: a case report. Rev Port Estomatol Med Dent Cir Maxilofac [online]. 2020, vol.61, n.4, pp.210-214. Epub 30-Dic-2020. ISSN 1646-2890. https://doi.org/10.24873/j.rpemd.2020.12.724.
Schwannoma is a benign encapsulated slow-growing tumor that occurs in the peripheral nerves and may or not be associated with trauma. There is no evidence to determine a relationship between the tumor, sex, or age. The purpose of this article is to examine a case of schwannoma in the lower lip. A 30-year-old male patient exhibits a lesion in the lower lip that was first detected after a facial trauma 8 years ago. After conducting the excisional biopsy and the histopathological examination, we confirmed the diagnosis of schwannoma due to the patterns Anthony A and B. The schwannoma was treated by total removal of the lesion. According to the medical data, this was the optimal treatment due to the low risk of injury to the nerves, the low recurrence rate, and the tumor’s malignancy.
