SOUSA, Maria Rui; MCINTYRE, Teresa; MARTINS, Teresa y SILVA, Elsa. Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire (DKQ): Psychometric properties. Rev. Port. Sau. Pub. [online]. 2015, vol.33, n.1, pp.33-41. ISSN 0870-9025. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rpsp.2014.07.002.
This paper describes the psychometric properties of the Knowledge about Diabetes Questionnaire (QCD) developed by Sousa and McIntyre (2003) on the basis of the self-regulation model of Leventhal and colleagues. Its purpose is to assess the knowledge that diabetics have about their disease and treatment. The questionnaire was administered to 249 patients diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus for more than 12 months, enrolled in health centers in the Oporto district. In order to determine test-retest reliability, a second administration was conducted 30 days later in a subgroup of 123 patients. Participants were ≥40 years old, were mostly female and weren't professionally active. The final version of the QCD consists of 20 items distributed by three dimensions (Treatment, control and complications, Causes and Duration). The results show that the QCD is reliable and valid in the population under study.
