Percussion hemoglobinuria is an underdiagnosed entity, rarely reported in the scientific literature. It is a syndrome that involves intravascular hemolysis with consequent hemoglobinuria in musicians of manual percussion instru-ments when they are subjected to repetitive trauma to the hands for prolonged periods of time.
Acute kidney injury associated with percussion hemoglobinuria is usually multifactorial, related to pigment induced kidney toxicity, dehydration and consumption of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory.
We present a case of a 30-year-old patient, a percussionist musician, diagnosed with percussion hemoglobinuria with acute kidney injury after a long-lasting and high-intensity percussion concert.
