Resumen

SILVA, Liliana  y  RODRIGUES, Luciana. Effectiveness of the AsmaSemCrise programme in asthma self-management. RPER [online]. 2022, vol.5, n.2, e261. ISSN 2184-965X.  https://doi.org/10.33194/rper.2022.261.

Asthma has a significant impact on quality of life, and most asthma patients have mild to moderate illness that can be easily controlled. However, 88% of uncontrolled asthmatics considered having their disease under control. Rehabilitation nursing is essential for empowering people to manage their disease, and social networks may represent an alternative and an opportunity to provide people with the information and tools necessary for self-management.

A quasi-experimental study aimed to assess whether there are differences in asthma symptomatic control, as assessed by the Control of Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma Test (CARAT), between a group of people with asthma who acquired an online asthma management monitoring program, AsmaSemCrise, and a group of people with asthma who did not have access to this information. This program consisted of individual and group teleconsultations where therapeutic education and individualized exercise training are developed.

In the AsmaSemCrise group, individuals increased, on average, 12.4 points in the total CARAT score. These differences were statistically significant, in contrast to the differences observed in the control group.

The AsmaSemCrise program contributes to training for self-management of asthma, reflected in the increase in the CARAT test score, whether in terms of symptoms of allergic rhinitis or symptoms of asthma, indicating better control of the disease.
