PRATA, Ana; BARBOSA-DUCHARNE, Maria; GONCALVES, Carlos  y  CRUZ, Orlanda. O impacto dos estilos educativos parentais e do desenvolvimento vocacional no rendimento escolar de adolescentes. Aná. Psicológica [online]. 2013, vol.31, n.3, pp.235-243. ISSN 0870-8231.

Understanding the complexity of school failure and school dropout has been one of the main concerns of research in recent decades, being not only the object of general interest, but also providing the substance for critics regarding a school of masses. The present research focuses on the analysis of family and individual predictors of adolescents’ school achievement. Participants were 222 adolescents aged between 14 and 16 years, attending the 9th grade. Data collection was made on higher/secondary schools with a Portuguese version of the Parenting Scales and the Vocational Exploration and Investment Questionnaire. Results indicated three main predictors of school achievement amongst teenagers namely, mothers’ school years, parental monitoring and vocational investment. Results are discussed from a psychosocial standpoint and implications for psychological intervention are drawn.

Palabras clave : Parenting practices; School achievement; Vocational development.
