This article offers an overview of the current global climate governance landscape and briefly analyses the environmental agenda of Joe Biden’s administration. It discusses the challenges that the new president will face to decarbonize the country amid a complex domestic context as well as the prospects surrounding his foreign climate policy and the opportunities arising from an international environment marked by the recent announcement of carbon neutrality targets by some of the world’s main greenhouse gas emitters.
