Resumen

RODRIGUES, Vanessa Rocha et al. The role of hyaluron acid in non-surgical treatment of Chronic Periodontitis - Systematic review. Rev Port Estomatol Med Dent Cir Maxilofac [online]. 2020, vol.61, n.2, pp.57-63.  Epub 30-Jun-2020. ISSN 1646-2890.  https://doi.org/10.24873/j.rpemd.2020.09.703.

Objectives:

The purpose of this review is to perform a systematic evaluation of the clinical effects of the local subgingival use of 0.8% or 0.2% hyaluronic acid (HA) as an adjunct to scaling and root planning in patients with chronic periodontitis.

Methods:

An electronic search was performed on PubMed, Lilacs, and Cochrane, without any time or language restrictions, on May 9, 2018, using the following keywords: “hyaluronic acid”; “periodontitis”; “treatment of periodontitis”; and “scaling.” The following parameters were evaluated: clinical attachment level (CAL) gain, probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP), plaque index (PI), and gingival index (IG). This review was registered with the identification number CRD42019131541 in the PROSPERO International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews hosted by the National Institute for Health Research, University of York, Centre for Reviews and Dissemination.

Results:

When applied to periodontitis, the combined treatment HA + SRP provides more satisfactory results than the conventional treatment of SRP alone in most of the outcome variables presented.

Conclusion:

It can be concluded that hyaluronic acid is a chemical adjuvant to consider in periodontal therapy.

Palabras clave : Hyaluronic acid; Periodontitis; Scaling; Treatment of periodontitis.
