REIS, Cristina  y  PARENTE, Cristina. The rearrangement of space and pedagogical materials: to encourage participation and the choices of a group of children’s. Invest. Práticas [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.1, pp.36-46. ISSN 2182-1372.  https://doi.org/10.25757/invep.v9i1.181.

Spaces and materials in Pre-School education are managed in a flexible way and do not follow a unique model of organization. Therefore, it belongs to the kindergarten teacher to organize, assess and reflect on their educational potential. Valuing children's participation and choices in childhood acquires significant significance for preschool teachers who adopt an active learning approach. The child participates when he has the opportunity to choose, to act on the objects, to reflect on his actions and to communicate what he is doing. Listening children allows them to know their ideas and provides opportunities for adults to support the child's efforts and extend and broaden their work. In this framework, based on the methodological approach of action research, a Pedagogical Intervention Project was developed with a group of twenty-four children, three years old, whose objective was to understand how the reorganization of space and of pedagogical materials may favor the participation and choices of a group of children. Data were collected through direct observation, audio and video recordings that documented the action and speech of children in the process of reorganizing space and materials. The analysis and interpretation of the pedagogical documentation supported the development of the process. The study showed that reorganizing space and materials, with the participation of children, promotes not only their independence and autonomy but also helps the child to think critically about the problems they encounter when working or playing. It also allowed us to understand that in the long run, it promotes the different types of play of the child, since it becomes more intentional, diverse and pedagogically rich.
