This paper aims to analyze a truly important documental legacy from the great Portuguese romantic writer Almeida Garrett (1799-1854), within the ongoing critical edition of Garrett’s Romanceiro. We refer to the Documents 59 to 63 from Almeida Garrett’s Literary Legacy, owned by the General Library from the University of Coimbra, and to Futscher Pereira Collection.

The documents from the University of Coimbra Library, autographs and printing originals regarding mainly Garrett (1843) publication, reveal a profound miscellaneous shape. Due to this, their cultural and patrimonial value is not well recognized yet. Therefore, we seek to discuss some of its organizing trends carried out in the past (some of them will seem controversial nowadays) which may lead to a better understanding of those materials. In order to do so, we will adopt a material and philological point of view.
