Objectives:

To identify the sensible gains for rehabilitation nursing care with a swallow optimization program in a person with compromised swallowing.

Methods:

Qualitative study, type of case study. It focuses on the application of the Nursing Process, respecting the CIPE® language, and uses the Documentary Pattern of Care of the Rehabilitation Nursing Specialty for the substantiation of the implemented interventions. We present the case of a person with compromised swallowing, of neurological etiology, admitted to a Hospital Center inpatient unit, assuring the ethical principles in their approach.

Results:

There was no evidence of complications in the implementation of the program and complete recovery of the swallowing function was observed after ten training sessions.

Conclusion:

The systematization of rehabilitation nursing care proved to be effective in reversing the observed change and contributed to increase the person’s autonomy
