Resumen
MICHAEL, George. The New Populist wave in America. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2016, n.50, pp.23-38. ISSN 1645-9199.
Populism has a long history in American politics. In the current U.S. presidential campaign, two widely different incarnations of populism have gained widespread support at the same time. On the political left, Bernie Sanders champions redistributive economic policies that resonate with members of the millennial generation who feel left behind in the stagnating American economy. On the political right, Donald Trump voices the concerns that many ordinary Americans have over immigration, trade policies, federal spending, and terrorism. These two competing versions of populism could presage great divisiveness in America. And the consequences could be substantial for the world which has become so dependent on American leadership since the end of the Cold War.
Palabras clave : Populism; fascism; far right; far left.
