STEFANI, Ana Laura  y  OLIVEIRA, Stefan Vilges. epidemiological profile of hospitalizations for malignant stomach neoplasia registered by the united health system in the state of minas gerais - brazil. Revista Onconews [online]. 2022, n.44, pp.37-44.  Epub 07-Jul-2022. ISSN 1646-7868.  https://doi.org/10.31877/on.2022.44.05.

Minas Gerais is the southeastern Brazilian state with the highest gross mortality rate from stomach cancer. From this epidemiological panorama, this study describes the profile of hospitalizations for malignant stomach neoplasm (ICD 10-C16) by the Unified Health System (UHS) in the state of Minas Gerais-MG, 2008-2019, through quantitative, descriptive and observational analysis of data from the UHS’s Hospital Information System (HIS/UHS). There were 39,164 hospitalizations and 6,071 deaths. The annual average hospitalization coefficient (HC) and hospital lethality (HL) were 5.6/100 thousand inhabitants and 15.5%, respectively. The highest incidences were in males (66.9%) and in the age group of 60 years or older (60.7%). The mean time and expenditure per hospitalization were 7.4 days and R$2988.07, respectively. The state is epidemiologically similar to the national reality in most findings. Therefore, the usefulness of hospital morbidity and mortality data to design better health strategies is evident.
