CALDEIRA, A. et al. Contribuição de Ultrasonografia Abdominal no diagnóstico da Trombose Mesentérica. J Port Gastrenterol. [online]. 2009, vol.16, n.4, pp.154-158. ISSN 0872-8178.
We report the case of an elderly woman who was urgently admitted in our Hospital. She complained of upper quadrant abdominal pain , vomiting and diarrhea with no blood, mucus or pus. Physical examination of the abdomen revealed tenderness in the epigastrium and the absence of peristaltic movements. Analytically there was leukocytosis, thrombocytosis, elevated lactate dehydrogenase and serum amylase. On admission, abdominal ultrassonography was performed which revealed suggestive images of vascular occlusion in superior mesenteric artery with intestinal ischaemia. The definitive diagnosis of superior mesentheric arterial thrombosis was confirmed by computorized angiotomography. She was submitted to percutaneous repermeabilization through interventional angiography. There was a clear improvement with clinical remission of complaints. After 15 months of follow-up she remains asymptomatic.
