RAMOS, R. et al. Acute Necrotizing Esophagitis: 2 case report and literature review. J Port Gastrenterol. [online]. 2009, vol.16, n.6, pp.244-247. ISSN 0872-8178.
BACKGROUND: Acute esophageal necrosis or black esophagus is a rare condition, reported for the first time in 1990. This disease is defined as a diffuse blackened aspect of the esophagus observed in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy associated with the histopathological findings of necrosis of the esophageal mucosa. Its cause remains unknown but it is probably multifactorial. We report two cases of acute esophageal necrosis and their endoscopic and histological characteristics are described. The pathogenic, clinical and follow-up features of this condition are discussed.
