GREGOVISKI, Vanessa Ruffatto y MONTEIRO, Janine Kieling. Strategies for Mediation of Labor Suffering and Mental Health of Venezuelans in Brazil. Laboreal [online]. 2023, vol.19, n.2, e21481. Epub 01-Dic-2023. ISSN 1646-5237. https://doi.org/10.4000/laboreal.21481.
It was intended to analyze mediation strategies (defense and coping) of Venezuelans to deal with experiences of suffering at work, reflecting about the impacts on their mental health. It is a qualitative, cross-sectional and exploratory research with 16 Venezuelan migrants living in the southern region of Brazil. A sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were used, with data interpreted by Content Analysis. The defense strategies were denial, control, isolation, and rationalization. Those coping were support at work, learning and leaving the company. Mental health at work was linked to feelings of belonging, appreciation, and growth, dialoguing with the meaning of work, while pathological suffering appeared mainly in unemployed women, with depressive symptoms and suicidal thoughts. It is noticed that work is central to them, their identities, and subjectivities. COVID-19 has increased vulnerabilities, especially among the unemployed. Crucial points that need greater attention were highlighted, providing clues that can support clinical practices and public policies.
