Este texto analisa a construção de um aparelho de administração judicial a uma escala pluricontinental. Debruçando-se sobre a rede de lugares de nomeação régia, onde se exercia uma justiça letrada, procura questionar as suas características fundamentais, sublinhando a sua matriz europeia, a adaptação desta às circunstâncias locais, e o pano de fundo de pluralismo político e jurídico que marca a diferente intensidade da sua implantação. O texto estabelece uma cronologia e um mapeamento da expansão e crescimento deste aparelho, ao mesmo tempo que analisa os fatores de criação de novos lugares e que questiona o seu aparente monolitismo.^len^aOverseas jurisdictions. The construction of the early modern Portuguese overseas judicial apparatus. This paper analyses the construction of a judicial apparatus at a pluri-continental scale. Focusing on the network of crown-appointed jurisdictions of royal law, the analysis questions its fundamental characteristics, stressing its European matrix and its adaptation to local circumstances, in a background of political and legal pluralism that explains the different range and intensity of its implementation. The text sets out a timeline and maps the expansion and growth of this apparatus at the same time as it analyses the creation of new jurisdictions and questions its apparent monolithic character.
