A Revista de Guimarães, órgão científico da Sociedade Martins Sarmento, em Guimarães, foi lançada em 1884 e ainda hoje é publicada. Até às primeiras décadas do século xx a sua linha editorial ligou-se ao movimento transformador, desencadeado por aquela instituição filantrópica. Teve como intuito envolver a comunidade local em torno da afirmação de Guimarães como cidade industrial de relevância nacional. Neste artigo analisa-se o impacto da revista na transformação da cidade, destacando-se os artigos publicados sobre a ciência, o ensino e a indústria, até à primeira suspensão da publicação em 1913.

The Revista de Guimarães, a scientific publication of Sociedade Martins Sarmento, in Guimarães, North Portugal, started in 1884 and keeps being published. Until the first decades of the twentieth century its editorial line is associated to the transformative process unleashed by the philanthropic institution. It mobilized the local community towards the affirmation of Guimarães as an industrial city of national relevance. This article analyzes the impact of the magazine in the transformation of the city, highlighting the articles published on science, education and industry, until the first suspension of publication in 1913.
