In a context of global crisis, in which the rhythm and scale of the changes seem to be more intense and aggressive than in any other historical period, we witness the emergence of social movements that challenge the current western economic growth model, reflecting new prosperity indicators and values. This article seeks to engage the Portuguese academic community in the transition movement, which gathers communityled initiatives that aim to respond to climate change and shrinking supplies of cheap energy, seeking to build resilient communities, and valuing process of economic localization. This text briefly explores the structure, history, vision as well as national and international panorama of this movement
