GALLARDO, Marta. Multiplicity of land use changes: The case of the region of Madrid. []. , 109, pp.95-112. ISSN 0430-5027.  https://doi.org/10.18055/Finis14745.

In the decades before the 2007 global economic crisis, Spain and, in particular, the Region of Madrid (due to its status as capital), recorded high rates of land use changes, related to gains in urban, commercial and transport uses. Between 1990 and 2006, artificial uses increased in almost 70%. These changes have been located throughout its territory, even inside natural protected areas. Using four temporary data of years 1982, 1990, 2000 and 2006, statistics and spatio-temporal results are obtained. Land use change dynamics in Madrid has been intense and fast, recording in this period and in certain areas of the region, especially around its metropolitan area, up to three land use transitions. These changes area related with the distance to existing urban areas and with the improvement of accessibility regarding to development of new transport infrastructures, mainly highways and radial roads. Legislation on urban planning in the region and its municipalities, has allowed the large development this land uses typology.
