POLOTTO, María Lydia. Amante menguante or the analysis of the transposition of a metaphor: Silvina Ocampo, Manuel Puig and Pedro Almodóvar. The articulation of the brechtian effects. []. , 26, 3, pp.223-244. ISSN 0807-8967.

In the film Hable con ella, the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar redefines the tale of the Shrinking Man taken, mainly, from Amada en el amado, a short story by Silvina Ocampo and from a narration introduced in Manuel Puig´s novel Maldición eternal a quien lea estas páginas, with the purpose of producing a distancing in the critical perception of the spectator. According to Bertolt Brecht´s theatrical theory, there are some devices that help to create a distancing effect that would lead the spectator to keep distance from the story as to eliminate the identification and the catharsis, in order to generate a critical attitude towards the play. One of those devices is the fiction inside the fiction. In Hable con ella, Almodóvar replaces the scene of Alicia´s rape and he shows a narration that tells us about the union of two beloved beings as to eliminate the spectator moral judgment of the rape.
