^lpt^aDores dos Santos e Salomé são os nomes que José Rodrigues Miguéis usou para definir a dupla identidade da personagem feminina do Milagre segundo Salomé. Autoexilada do mundo que a rodeia, esta mulher evolui de forma complexa, como se, na sua busca da felicidade e, consequentemente, de identidade, promiscuidade, devassidão e misticismo se conjugassem perfeitamente com ingenuidade, pureza e realidade. Dores dos Santos parece querer assumir o papel tradicional feminino: nascida para sofrer, entrega-se ao homem para encontrar aquilo que ela pensa ser a felicidade. Contudo, é com “o nome para batalhas de amor-fingido”, Salomé, que recupera a dignidade humana, que encontra o verdadeiro amor: meretriz pelo corpo, anjo pela alma, a fé num homem-redentor, capaz de a salvar pelo amor, alimenta-lhe a alma e purifica-lhe o coração. Dores dos Santos appears to wish to take on the traditional female role: born to suffer, she surrenders to a man to find what she believes to be happiness. However, it is with “the name for battles of fake-love” that Salomé reclaims human dignity, thereby finding true love: a prostitute in body, an angel in soul, the faith in a redeeming man who is able to rescue her through love, feed her soul and cleanse her heart. As embodiment of purity, Salomé imparts physical reality to the Virgin mother of God through the strength of her being and thus becomes the miracle of mankind.
