SANTOS, C. et al. Stress corrosion tests of API 5L X70 steel in ethanol medium. []. , 32, 1, pp.19-23. ISSN 2182-6587.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the stress corrosion of steel API 5L-X70 in ethanol media from diverse origins: PA anhydrous ethanol, ethanol from sugar-cane (different lots of a refinery), and corn ethanol. In the trials were used samples with V-notch under reduced slow-strain-rate (1.0x10-5 mm.s-1), and ultrapure nitrogen and super dry synthetic air atmospheres. Fractures of the specimens were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The simultaneous analysis of the curve load (kgf ) versus extension (%) and the fracture micrographs showed the following as the SC: 1) anhydrous ethanol behaves as an inert; 2) ethanol from sugar cane exhibits a slight aggressive action, particularity for synthetic air atmosphere; 3) corn ethanol quite aggressive in synthetic air atmosphere.
